Are Your Teeth Sensitive?
Are your teeth sensitive? Teeth can become sensitive for many reasons. Here are the 10 biggest causes of tooth sensitivity. You brush too hard. Overtime you can wear down the protective layer of your teeth. When this happens it exposes microscopic hollow tubes or canals that lead to your nerves, making you sensitive to; hot, cold, sweets, acids. You eat acidic foods. This also wears down the protective layer of your teeth, making the nerves more accessible. You are a tooth grinder. Grinding your teeth wears down your enamel, eventually exposing your hollow tubes that lead to your nerves. Dr. Bomstad and Dr. Karban can help you with grinding by making you a custom bite guard. You use tooth-whitening toothpaste. Tooth-whitening toothpaste contains chemicals that can make your teeth more sensitive. You use a lot of mouthwash. Like tooth-whitening toothpaste, mouthwash also contains chemicals, as well as alcohol, that can make your teeth sensitive. If you use a … [Read more...]

How Healthy Are Your Gums?
If you have gums that are red, swollen, inflamed or bad breath, you may have gum disease. According to the Center for Disease Control, half of all Americans have periodontal disease. Some contributing factors to periodontal disease include; lack of oral hygiene, smoking, and diabetes. Fortunately, periodontal disease is treatable. The early stages of periodontal disease is called gingivitis. Gingivitis is when only the soft tissue is affected. Luckily, gingivitis is reversible. Periodontitis is more advanced than gingivitis, involving soft tissue as well as bone loss. Unfortunately, bone that has been resorbed due to periodontal disease will not grow back. Patients with periodontitis will need root planning and scaling, removing the calculus from the deep pockets found below your gum line. If periodontal disease is left untreated, tooth loss will be inevitable. If you are concerned you may have periodontal disease, call Bomstad Dental to have your mouth evaluated. … [Read more...]

Enjoying Too Much Halloween Candy?
Halloween was pretty perfect this year, not only did it fall on a Saturday, but we had beautiful weather too! Like most holidays, we tend to indulge a bit too much. I know I have had my fair share of sweets over the past few days. Just how many sweets have our kids had? It's extra important to make sure our kids are doing a good job brushing their teeth, especially right after Halloween. Most children do not have the dexterity to brush their teeth until 6 or 7 years old. Even then, parents need to check their children's teeth when they are done brushing. The six year molar is statistically the most restored tooth. This is part of the reason we recommend sealants for your children when their permanent teeth erupt. If your child doesn't have sealants yet, call Bomstad Dental today or click HERE. 952-938-7746 … [Read more...]
