Does the Type of Filling Material Matter?
Did you know there are different types of filling material used for fixing cavities? Silver amalgam and composite resin are the two different products used, but does it matter which one you get placed in your mouth? The answer is yes! At Bomstad Dental we use composite resin because of it's superior bonding ability. Not only does composite resin match the color of your tooth, unlike the "old fashion" silver fillings, but you will not lose as much tooth surface with the composite resin filling. The "old fashion" silver amalgam filling requires more tooth structure to be removed when restoring the tooth. In dentistry it is always better to keep as much original tooth structure as possible. The way composite resin fillings bond to the tooth make the tooth stronger, lessening the likelihood of fracture or breakage in the future. At Bomstad Dental we strive to provide the best dental care possible. If you have a tooth that needs to be repaired, give Dr. Bomstad or Dr. Karban a … [Read more...]

Maintaining Good Dental Hygiene
Maintaining good dental hygiene is one of the most important things you can do in life, unfortunately it can often be easily overlooked. Brushing, flossing and rinsing are only the beginning to taking care of your teeth. Regular dental check ups are an important part of good dental hygiene. You should visit your dentist twice a year to catch problems such as decay, gum disease, trauma or cancer. When all of these problems are caught at an early stage they are very treatable. Watching what you put in your mouth also makes a difference in your overall dental hygiene. You should avoid things that are acidic or sugary. Acid found in soda, juices and candies can make your tooth enamel softer and more susceptible to cavities. Sugar causes plaque to form in our mouth, eating away at enamel and gums.
